mpFSS – brakeFix

Installation

This plugin was tested with fsx-sp2 on Windows XP Pro 32bit sp3 and Windows 7 pro 64bit. I have the german version of windows only and hope my translations of folder names or dialogs are correct. Installation is easy..basicly copying and modding a file.. it looks just heavy ;)

• Close fsx
• Check if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtime Libs" installed
  • open the add/remove software control panel
  • search for the entry "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable"
  • if you don't have it, go to the Microsoft download center and search for "Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package"
  • install with administrator rights and do a windows update after installation
• if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtime Libs" installed download the plugin
• copy the DLL into the "Modules" folder inside your fsx folder (create the folder if it doesn't exist. It is possible to place it anywhere but you have to modify the path in the DLL.XML file if you do so)
• backup your "DLL.XML" file and edit the original with a text editor
  • go to your user folder which is normaly at "C:\Documents and Settings\<YourLogonName>" (see note 1 below)
  • go into the folder "Application Data\Microsoft\FSX" inside your user folder(see note 1 below) or
  • if you don't see the "Application Data" folder, because it's hidden, open the folder options of windows-explorer
    • open the tab "View"
    • scroll the "Advanced settings" list a bit and search for an entry "Hidden folders and files" and set it to "Show all files and folders
    • now you should see the "Application Data" folder
  • duplicate the "DLL.XML" file (if you don''t have it at all...see note2)
    • right click on the "DLL.XML" file and click left on "copy" in the context menu
    • with the mouse pointer over a free area inside the folder right click and then left click "paste" in the context menu
    • now you should have a duplicate of the file named "Copy of DLL.XML"
    • rename this file to something meaningful to you like appending the date for example like "DLL.20090915.XML" if you want to
• open the original with a text editor which looks simular like this and insert following lines like this

  it is important that it is the first plugin which loads
• save and close the file
• start fsx
• if a security warning pops up, the installation was successful.. click on "run"
• click "yes" to allow the extension permanently. This dialog pops up every time you update it
• That's all. Look in the usage manual if you like.

Note 1: The folders may be localized depending on your windows version and windows language. Sorry I can give you the english and german names only, since I don't know them in other languages

• For xp:
  english "C:\Documents and Settings\<yourUserName>" = german "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<deinNutzerName>"
  english "Application Data" = german "Anwendungsdaten"
• windows7:
  english "C:\users\<yourLogonName>" = german "C:\Benutzer\<deinNutzerName>" (technicaly it's "users" in both cases)
  xp "Application Data" = win7 all languages "AppData\Roaming"

Note 2: If you don't have the DLL.XML at all you can copy the text below and paste it into a text editor and save the file. But use this method only if you have none. If you have one and replace it, other plugins which may have been installed are not working anymore.
